The Bookworm!

The Bookworm has finally filled her Bookworm! We started the Bookworm earlier this year(June...I think) to help Asia get into reading chapter books, and to give her a way to keep track of how many she reads. We also had a party for different reading milestones.

It took a looong time for her to get through the first three books.

Then, something clicked, and she basically turned in to what her parents used to be when they had spare time to read voraciously. She has pretty much devoured chapter books for the last several months, sometimes going through 3 in a day. And, her comprehension has been pretty good too, judging from her commentary on everything from Little House on the Prairie to Ancient Greece. ("Did you know that girls weren't even ALLOWED TO COMPETE IN THE ANCIENT OLYMPICS, DAD!?!")

We are SUPER thankful that she loves reading so much, and although it is probably not for everyone, her Sing-Spell-Read-Write curriculum has worked very well for her learning styles.

Good job Asia!

2013 Flashback

Well, 2013 is in the history books, and although we're glad to greet the new year, it's fun to look back and see where last year went...since it seemed to go by extremely fast.

So,  Here's the Cliffnotes version of Johnson2013...
January 2013 was the last time we were at Starbucks together...The closest bux is quite a ways from where we live.
And, our first 5 missionaries started their Visayan language and culture study in the new program.
FINALLY! After 3 1/2 years of taking public transportation...we were able to get a vehicle. It is affectionately known as the "trucklet."
We celebrated Easter together...
Asia, our young ballerina,  pirouetted her way to a 6-year old ballet birthday party.
Four very cute young kiddos wished mommy a Happy Mother's Day!
Four...ummm...mustachio'd young kiddos wished daddy a Happy Father's Day
Two people who are feeling a bit old wished each other a happy 10th anniversary!
Our 24-pound bundle of joy and energy had her Lalaloopsy 3rd birthday.
Wow, it's hard to believe we arrived here in September 2009! We celebrated 4 years of life and ministry in the Philippines.
Our young superheros Leif & Slater turned 5 years old with a Transformer birthday party.
Some Native Americans and Pilgrims showed up for a very nice American Thanksgiving.
And, we celebrated our 5th Christmas straight in the Philippines--- were a very busy year, but a good one. Here's to praying for an awesome 2014 as we head to the States for a year. We have some excited grandparents and relatives and friends over in the US, and we have some extremely excited kiddos over here--ready for a joyful reunion.

Thank you God for a very healthy and productive year---and happy 2014 everybody!
