Last Month in America so far...

December...The last month of 2014, and the last month of our Home Assignment. In less than two weeks, we are leaving on a jet plane, bound for Asia.
So...when we haven't been packing, shipping boxes and preparing for our new ministry location and language in the Philippines, we have spent our time reading....
catching up on school...
Taking lots of hikes around the campus and in the woods...
Decorating a genuine REAL Christmas tree for the first time in the kids lives...
braving the sub-72 degree weather....
The boys have been decoding the wonderful world of mathematics, and LOVING it! :)
We got to see Auntie Holly, Uncle Dan and Happy....who is soon to be born. Just not soon enough....we'll have to wait to meet her.
Had the first Tiegs family pictures in years...
still young...
Hangin' out with Uncle Dan...
And, all ready and psyched for Uncle Bran and Auntie Bethany's wedding. As you can see, pure delight for the girls, pure torture for the boys...The boys told Brian right after the wedding that they are never gonna get married...they're just going to travel a lot...
Beautiful chapel on a hill for the wedding.
Beautiful date for the wedding. (Brian is writing this...)
And, the boys continue to use their twinly skills to obtain what is needed. The best part is that Slater is still playing a game on mommy's phone while being used as a human stool.
Siblings after the ceremony...
And, the whole fam.
The kids are super excited to greet their new cousin...but they will probably see her for the first time in the Philippines.
Thankfully, we got one last snow for the kiddos. Wasn't  much, but it was enough.
Last family shot in the snow for a LONG time.
Self-portrait of husband, wife, snow, coffee.
The girls got to make a special trip to Nashville to see the Nutcracker! Super awesome...Asia and Skye sat spellbound for the entire performance.
Brian got to take one last trip to Minnesota to see family. So glad to see Grandpa and Agnes, and SO thankful that she is recovering well after her crazy accident (getting hit by a car while they were walking on a boat dock. Somebody hit the gas instead of the brake).
The kiddos worked on making their own books...
And, the boys are starting to read books!!

While the girls were off watching the ballet, the boys took a lot of hikes, all over the hills.
We also continued reading through our books about early aviation adventures. (copyright 1928)
Grampy came along hiking, and we discovered some cool rock formations on the way.
And, the boys spent some time in the old cedar tree...

It's been a good last month in America...We're gonna miss the fam, but we are ready to get on the plane, and head back to our other home.

Day 30: Sushi!

Today, unlike most days, Brooke and I managed to get out for a short date...

We did a bit of driving, shopping, coffee, and not a lot else. But, we finished it off by bringing home some....Sushi!

Ok, our sushi didn't look quite this cool...but it was sure delish!

Sometimes, when you can't have a full-on dinner date, having something special like this to eat makes for a pretty fun time.

SO, today....as we finish 30 days of Thankfulness, we are thankful for seaweed, rice, raw fish and the wasabi that just makes for one heck of a meal.

Happy last day of  November!

Day 29: Gorgeous Weather

It got to like 70 degrees today! We were so stoked and thankful to have gorgeous weather, after having lots of  below freezing nights and days...

So today,we are thankful for gorgeous weather, and we did not waste it!
Here is Skye, honing her rock-climbing skills...
And, some hill scrambling.
Skye did an awesome job hiking today...she kept up the whole way, and her tiny legs did awfully well on the steep hill.
The whole crew, sans daddy the photographer....that's Grampy leading the way. It was so nice to be out in the woods again....cold weather and hunting season kept us from hiking for quite a while...super thankful to be back.
It' (almost) all downhill from here!
My little survivor-boy....stopping for a moment by the trail.

We all love the woods, and we all loved the weather!

Day 28: Bikes!

For today, we are thankful for....Bikes!
One thing we started praying about with our kids while we were in the Philippines, was that they could have bikes to ride while we were on furlough.
And, all the kids got a bike....free!!
There was even one for the nearly-weds to ride...
Bikes are cool. And so are the people who ride them.
and some are just SUPER cool....

So today, we are super thankful for the bikes we have received this furlough....our kids have had a blast and have learned how to ride pretty well!!

Day 27: Thanksgiving!

Turkey day! Family, food and fun----It's been a good Thanksgiving.

We are super thankful to be in the states for our first Thanksgiving since 2008!
Thankful for family...

Soon-to-be family!

Lots to eat...
lots of fun...
lots of leaves....
And good weather for walking off the feast, and playing by the creek.

And, the kids got in some good shelter-building practice with Uncle Mikey...all-in-all a great Thanksgiving!
