The week we arrived in the Philippines, way back in 2009, we met Wendel. He was our guide and host for one of our first cultural excursions in the country, and we were laughing together shortly after the excursion started. We're still laughing together. And we're very thankful for his friendship and his help over the last four years.
Wendel has guided both Brooke and I through learning Tagalog and Visayan (since he speaks both fluently).
He has helped us make sense of crazy grammar, complicated vocabulary and cultural nuances for the last 4 years.
Our kids love Kuya Wendel too. This picture is from this evening. It's almost Wendel's birthday...but he won't be here on the actual day. So, we took him out for dinner. The kids were very excited to come along to celebrate Kuya Wendel's birthday.
We are very thankful that we were able to get Wendel to come down to our island as we opened the new Visayan language and culture program. His ability to help guide new missionaries from initial TPR all the to way to deep abstract language is amazing.
As we go on furlough, he will continue to help guide the students through their learning of language and culture, and we are very blessed to have him as part of our team.
So today, we are thankful for Wendel!
Salamat kaajo bay! Maligayang Kaarawan og magenjoy!
